Becoming a Web3 Gaming Content Creator
Web3 gaming is an entirely new world. It’s exciting, confusing, rewarding, and even somewhat risky at times. I’ve been blessed with the opportunity to create video and written content for 50+ web3 games over the last 3 years, have been featured by GAM3SGG, partnered with Elixir, Avax, TreasureDAO, and worked with a number of indie developers and gaming studios.
While it is relatively simple to get started, there are a few ways to begin your journey. While creating content is an artform that isn’t “one-size-fits-all”, lets run through a quick overview of the 3 things you should know BEFORE creating web3 gaming content:
First and foremost, you should (at least) have a general idea of the content you want to talk about. However, I do not believe web3 gamers need to know or completely understand blockchain technology at a high level. Learn as much as you can about the individual game(s) you want to make content on to keep your information accurate and concise. It’s ok to be unfamiliar with certain terms or trends! By surrounding yourself with fellow creators in your niche you will begin to pickup everything from the lingo to the latest gaming news.
Despite being second on this list, it is equally important to understand that in most instances web3 gamers may be offered the opportunity to have more control over their in-game assets (this means trading, selling, renting, and much more). Therefore, security must NEVER be taken lightly. We’ll talk about safety do’s and don'ts and learn about the best practices when it comes to operating a digital or physical crypto wallet for gaming (like Metamask, Phantom, or MagicEden Wallet, or Ledger’s Hardware Wallet just to name a few)
Lastly, RELATIONSHIPS ARE EVERYTHING. This obviously doesn’t just apply to web3, but rather all aspects of life. I can attest to the fact that everything I’ve learned, achieved, and created in this space could not be possible if it weren’t for the amazing content creators who took me under their wing and showed me the ropes. Relationships lead to collaborations, which can lead to sponsorships and all sorts of other opportunities within web3 gaming.
Learning Resources, Relationships, & Security
Web3 gaming is still a new and confusing niche that NOBODY has figured out yet. I have tried and failed in this space (more times than I’d like to admit) simply because I have a bad habit of wanting to do things for myself. Don’t develop this habit! I have had the most success in this space listening to the advice of creators who came before me.
Here are some of the BEST learning resources & communities I’ve found when it comes to getting started in creating web3 gaming content as a complete beginner:

Grants & Sponsorships
To be frank, it is easier to get paid as a web3 content creator than it is in the traditional gaming landscape as it is today. I got my start in web3 gaming creating sponsored content alongside Web3 Content Agencies like TreasureDAO (Treasure Create), Real Agency and many more! Most grants available to web3 content creators have their own application process, eligibility criteria, and focuses. When applying, ensure your application aligns with the mission and goals of the grant program you're interested in.
General Web3 Grant Programs - While not exclusive to content creators these grants encourage applications from a broad range of contributors
Questbook (Features Grants From Arbitrum, TON Foundation, and many more)
Web3 Foundation (Features Grants Funding Development and Research related to Polkadot and Kusama)
Collaborations
Collaborations are a great way to test different content mediums with fellow creators. They provide useful data to refer back to, and they are a sure fire way to keep your content fresh. Collabs can also lead to sponsorship opportunities via relationships built. Go the extra mile, do a few favors free of charge, be consistent, answer your DMs, and make it fun and easy to work with you.
